Picture an old-time general store. Call it a "mercantile,” or maybe an “emporium.” Whatever name you prefer, it harkens
back to a time of “simple life” pleasures such as penny
candies in glass jars, rows of colorful fabrics, and the aroma
of freshly ground coffee. How nice it would be to step back in
time to experience that just for
a little while. Well, here at the
Canacadea Country
Store, you can do just that. We are
proud to be carrying on a classic American Tradition.
Originally built as a general store in 1858, this quaint, terra cotta-topped structure endured virtually
unchanged for a century and a year. It sat vacant
for about three years and then was reopened as a
gift shop in the early 1960s. A little over two
decades later, the store was purchased by Don and
Sandy Cameron, who expanded the merchandise
to include high quality specialty items. Yet, all the
while they have maintained the true ambience of a
charming country store, where all who enter are
warmly greeted. As the sign on our counter says:

The sights and sounds will transport you back to
another era. Over three levels, you’ll stroll on
creaking, well-worn, original hardwood floors past
old wooden showcases, glass candy jars, the
vintage coffee mill, and literally thousands of unique
and high quality gift items for your family, your
friends, and yes, you.
Sure, our penny candies cost a little more these
days, but the Canacadea Country Store experience
is one that is priceless.
Candy
In some ways it feels like turning back the
clock when you walk into the Canacadea
County Store. We have a wide variety of
old-time hard and soft jar candies and 8
delicious varieties of cordials. We are
proud to offer Wellsville, NY-based
Cretekos specialty chocolates, which come
in a variety of interesting shapes and sizes,
as well as Alfred Honey Pot chocolates,
which are sweetened with, of course, fresh
honey. This little-known Alfred, NY
enterprise has been in business since
1922.
Whatever you're looking for, we have
something to satisfy anyone's sweet tooth!
Handbags and Accessories
Colorful ladies handbags, accessories and
jewelry....quality items you're more likely to
find in places like Manhattan, Chicago, or
LA are right here at Canacadea Country
Store. Upscale Vera Bradley floral-
patterned handbags are a specialty of
ours. We also carry a unique line of leather
purses and passport cases from the
European-based Baekgaard company. To
accent your handbag or accessory
purchase, we have a colorful selection of
Tom's jewelry.
Coffee and Tea
For the discriminating coffee and tea
drinkers, there are plenty of savory delights
here at Canacadea Country Store. Our
coffee is available in whole bean, or freshly
ground in our 1930s vintage coffee grinder
(and carefully weighed on our vintage
scale). Flavors include Columbian
Supremo, Sumatra Mandheling, Café
Angelica Hazelnut (our most popular
seller), and much more. For the tea
afficionado, we carry a wide variety of
Metropolitan teas, including Earl Grey,
Formosa Oolong, Original Maple Tea,
Jasmine Green, and much more. Come

Ceramics and Artwork
At Canacadea Country Store we take pride
in being able to offer locally-crafted pottery,
including Dick Lang (lower left), Kay
Brooks and Young Sapling Pottery. We
also carry a line of distinctive folk art
ceramics by Irma Starr (left) of Kansas
City, MO, whose work is on display in the
White House, Colonial Williamsburg and
the Smithsonian, and is offered for sale in
only select locations, including here. We
also carry signed and unsigned framed
prints including work by local watercolorist
Tom O'Grady. You will find an attractive
selection of themes such as Americana,
rural life, patriotic, wildlife and more.
Gourmet Snacks
Ever feel like having a snack that's a little
different...you know, maybe something with
a special flavor and quality that goes
beyond what you typically find at your
usual grocery store? At Canacadea
Country Store, we have maple products,
Arbor Hill jellies (Naples, NY) and jams,

Robert Rothschild dips, sauces, salsas and

Karr glassware, Cyndi Kelly jewelry, and
the distinctive Arthur Court aluminum ware.
